200 MW Nature Inclusive Solar Park

Our Nature Inclusive Solar park system, the first of its kind in Namibia and all of southern Africa, both powers the power grid and that it helps protect nature in and around Tsumeb. We are currently completing engineering, with financial close expected in the third quarter of 2022. Construction will start in early 2023:
“Beforehand, we put a lot of time and effort into optimizing the solar farm. AC/DC ratio, BOS costs, service concept: everything was optimized to keep the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) as low as possible, ” explains Fernandez Kautungwavali, director of Electriffy Energies Namibia.

About the project

The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to design, finance, build and operate an innovative 200 MW solar energy facility for Namibia and help strengthen institutional capacity to facilitate the scale-up of such technologies on a commercial basis in Namibia. This solar power plant will fund a local community development fund and protect beautiful areas. Thoroughly Nature Inclusive Solar park we restore nature, promote the environment and social well-being. This helps reverse global trends in habitat loss and species vulnerability. Encouraging biodiversity has positive feedbacks for agriculture and for the health of the ecosystem itself.

It is in this context that the Office of the Vice President supports Electrify Energies Namibia Pty (Ltd) for their ambitious plan to transform Namibia into the next exporter of electricity.
